The Art Of Slowing Down

It’s been a while since I last wrote a post on general life and where I’m at these days. It’s been pretty hectic for sure. I feel like days are passing by in a blur and I’m not able to appreciate the present or savour the small precious moments. It feels like there’s too much to do and 24 hours in a day is just not enough – anyone else feel me? So, I’ve decided to make a few changes, so that I don’t get stuck in an endless vortex of work and no play.

  1. Do less – I feel like the first step to slowing down is by decreasing the number of posts I put onto this blog. Sometimes, I’m really passionate about it, but after a while I don’t get the same buzz – it’s a vicious circle. I don’t want to completely stop blogging either, as it’s opened me up to so many opportunities, so I’ve decided I’ll be going back to posting once a month!
  2. Disconnect – Let’s be honest, it’s really difficult to have some solitude in this world of technology. But, putting the phone away, deactivating social media accounts and just being present in the now makes a huge difference. I’ll be doing this more and maybe it’ll even inspire me to create new pieces for my graphic designing gig.
  3. Appreciate nature – As a freelance graphic designer, sitting in front of my computer for most of the day is a norm for me, but I really feel like I need to change this! Maybe go for a walk during lunch and get some fresh air. Sit in a park to hear the birds chirping or even start gardening in my spare time (ha, just kidding!)
  4. Socialise – Okay, I’m more of an introvert, but even spending quality time with my family does wonders for my mental health and I do I’ll be doing this more through organising entertainment nights where we can play board games, order takeout and just chill in front of a movie. I’d certainly be up for that!
  5. Breathe – Sometimes it’s difficult to slow down when there’s so much to do in so little time, but I’ve learnt to just take a deep breath and release all the tension building up inside. It brings me straight back to the present and gives me a clearer head, so I’m going to continue doing this!
